Chinzô Machida is a Japanese Brazilian mixed martial artist who competes in the lightweight division.

Biography

Chinzô Machida is the older brother of former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida. He is a Shotokan Karate Black Belt and Shotokan Karate Vice Champion (Australia 2006). He lost in the final to number-one ranked Shotokan master Koji Ogata. He once fought in a karate tournament against his younger brother Lyoto Machida in 1998 where he received a scar on his cheek which remains to this day.

Professional mixed martial arts

He made his debut against Christian Rossi on May 21, 2005. He won at round 1 at 1:40 of the first round by TKO (soccer kicks and knees to the head of a downed opponent).[1] He had his second fight against Brian Rafiq on April 29, 2006 to whom he lost to via guillotine choke at :56 of round number 2.[1] He has not fought in professional MMA since that day. In an interview with mmajunkie.com Chinzô and Ed Soares said that Chinzô is interested in fighting again in 2010 and possibly fighting on a season of the ultimate fighter as a lightweight or welterweight in the future but its more likely if they have a season of the ultimate fighter in Brazil.

On December 15, 2010 Chinzô returned to MMA after a four year hiatus to face fellow Brazilian Leonardo Laiola. Chinzô was unable to mount any significant offense and suffered his second career loss as Laiola walked away with a Unanimous Decision victory.
