Blue is the soundtrack album to the 2009 Bollywood film Blue directed by Anthony D'Souza. A. R. Rahman composed the music for the film with lyrics provided by Abbas Tyrewala, Mayur Puri, Ajit Arora, Raqeeb Alam and Sukhwinder Singh.

The much anticipated soundtrack was released on 8 September 2009. According to the music director,"This is my first film after the oscars. So expectations are Scary. Its Important to work with a great team to create great music and we've done that with Blue. What's special about Blue is that its an underwater adventure. So, it was very exciting to this score as a composer. Its important that you don't get typecast. Its also important to give the kind of music the film requires and have fun with it!"

The song "Chiggy Wiggy" was sung by famous pop singer Kylie Minogue.[1]She also made a special appearance in the video of the song.

Overview

The album kicks off with "Chiggy Wiggy", a typical hip hop dance track. This was the most promoted song of the album. It features pop singer Kylie Minogue and almost towards the middle, the song totally turns on its head with Sonu Nigam's Punjabi entry. Backing female vocals is given by Suzanne D'Mello and Phij Adams did the sound mixing for the song.[2] The next track is "Aaj Dil Gustakh Hai", which begins with a sequence of Sukhwinder Singh’s humming, followed by an acoustic guitar loop. Shreya Ghoshal is handling a westernised rendition in the song. The backing vocalists for the song are Benny Dayal, Hentry Kuruvila, Shi Millhouse and Raven Millhouse. "Fiqrana" features vocals by Vijay Prakash and Shreya Ghoshal and was picturised as solo performances of Akshay Kumar, Lara Dutta and Zayed Khan. Sanjay Dutt, the actor playing the film's protagonist boycotted the promtional events since he was not included in this song, which remained chart topper for many weeks.[3] "Bhoola Tujhe" is a romantic song sung by Rashid Ali, who has already sung similar style songs for Rahman. The Yeri voice for the song was by Kavita Belliga. The theme song for Blue is different from typical songs of the composer as it is having hard rap and power-packed Bhangra-electronic elements. It is sung by Blaaze, with backing vocals by Raqeeb Alam, Sonu Kakkar, Jaspreet Singh, Neha Kakkar and Dilshad Khan. "Rehnuma" is an experimental track by the composer, which is sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Sonu Nigam. This track has received huge positive reviews among the fans and critics but failed to be a massive success. "Yaar Mila Tha" is an unconventional sort of item number, which is sung by Udit Narayan and Madhushree with backing vocals by Ujjayinee Roy, Shi Millhouse and Raven Millhouse. However, this track was not included in the film.

The soundtrack of the movie has received positive reviews, with most reviewers hailing the album as one of the best to a commercial movie. Planetbollywood.com reviewed the music saying "Blue is a good album and has all in it to make a good impression at the music stands. In a way, the album comes at just the right time when there is quite some variety in store this Diwali. Blue practically mixes up genres.".".[6] Planetbollywood.com said "Blue does have some fun compositions such as the Blue Theme, Chiggy Wiggy and Yaar Milaa Thaa. And, composition-wise, the rest of the songs are also enjoyable to listen to…however, lyrics, for the most part, are a huge disappointment, and there isn’t consistency in terms of quality throughout the OST. While some songs grab your attention immediately, songs like Aaj Dil Gustaakh Hai will take a very long time to grow on you, and even then, it feels as if you’re forcing yourself to feel excited about some of the songs."[7]
