A native of Saginaw, Michigan, Grube attended Arthur Hill High School before enrolling at the University of Michigan. He played end for the Michigan Wolverines football team from 1923 to 1925.[1][2] He played on the 1925 Michigan Wolverines football team that included quarterback Benny Friedman and fellow end Bennie Oosterbaan.[2] Grube later played professional football for the Detroit Panthers in 1926.[3] Grube died in 1976 at age 72 while residing in Hollywood, Florida.[4]
