Chamogarh is a village 15 km from Gilgit city, Gilgit-Baltistan. Its ancient name was Chamu which come to be known as Chamogarh.The word Chamogarh is derived from a woman`s name Chamo ,who was the head of Chamogarh before the indpendence of Gilgit-Baltistan. Danyor Alam bridge road crosses Chamogarh and also connects it to Jalalabad, Danyor, Oshkhindass and Alam bridge . In the west it is connected to the village of Harating, Jalalabad, Gilgit City, Hunza and Khunjerab top to China. Chamogarh has an intervening width of mountainous terrain.

Castes

There are more than three castes in Chamogarh.Sheikh, who migrated from kohistan ,the Khasu family who left Patan Kohistan and started their new life in Chamogarh.The Pashtuns who migrated from Afghanistan.There is another family in Chamogarh who migrated from Kohistan(khili), in local language they are called as khiloch(the dwellers of khili).The majority of khiloch people have adopted agriculture as their livelihood and these people are very hard working. Maulana Saleem belongs to the same family.

Pashtuns

The pashtuns are also inhabited in chamogarh.The pashtuns are well eduacated people. Saeed sahab remained Home secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan and his brother Dr Ghulam is retired army major.The two brothers Deputy commissioner Sibtain and Assistant Commissioner Usman are sons of Dr Ghulam.In spite of these brothers many other pashtuns are holding good offices in government sector. The Khasus(called patonz in kohistani language)are also educated people.According to Khasu family , these people migrated from Swat to pattan Kohistan. After some decades the khasu family came to Gilgit and settled in Chamogarh.These people are also working as officers in government sector like Captain Rashid Minhas, Mubashir and Alam executive engineer and Dr. Muddasir.

The Sheikh Family

The Sheikh family is biggest family in population,The Sheikh Family migrated from Kohistan (saikot)and this family is living in Bagh Mohallah.

MatqUllah (late) is father of follwing pepole. Mushraft ullah, sharif Muhammad,Abdul Majeed ( Lumbardar), Abdul Hameed, Mansoor Alam.

Ikram ullah Sheikh, Naseem ullah,Hafeez Ullah Sheikh , Mujeeb Ullah,SadatUllah, Shujat Ullah,Mohib ullah and Sajawl Sheikh.

Languages

There are more than three languages are spoken in Chamogarh. Majority of the population speak Kohistani. Pashtu is also being spoken there.

Schools

The people of Chamogarh are very active in education.There are more than five educational institutions are working in Chamogarh.F.G boys Middle school , F.G girls school, Mehboob Academy and Iqra School. More than seven hundred students are getting their education in these institutions.

Agriculture

Agriculture is also the livelihood of the people of Chamogarh. Wheat, Maize are grown abundantly. The fertile land of Chamogarh is also rich in fruits like Grapes, Almond, Apricot,Amluk, Meetha, Pomegranate and apples.

It is right to say that Chamogarh is a small village but this small village has produced well talent in the form of government officers in the army and Gilgit-Baltistan administration.
