Prosilio

Prosilio (Greek: Προσήλιο, literally "sunward place') is a Greek village located 48 km southeast of Ioannina in the municipality of Tzoumerka (Ioannina Prefecture, Epirus), Greece. Its population is 142 people (2001 census). Until the early 20th century, its name was the Slavic Vastavetsi (Βασταβέτσι).

Geography

Prosilio is located on the western part of the central Pindus mounains and in the center of the Vlach-speaking municipality of Tzoumerka (villages Sirako, Kalarrites, Matsouki, Kipina, (Arbourissi), Palaiochori Sirakou and Vathypedo).

Prosilio is located south of Metsovo, nearly west of Trikala, north of Arta and southeast of Ioannina. Its elevation is 900 m.

History

The village was of Slavic origin and was known as Dovisdiana (Δοβίσδιανα) until 1927 (Law 76A - May 2). The community was created with the area of the settlement in 1919 (Law 184A - August 19) It was renamed Chalasmata (Χαλάσματα) until 1928 (Law 81A - May 14) when it adopted its current name Prosilio. The community became a part of the municipality of Tzoumerka and became a municipality district under Law 244A on December 4, 1997. Its inhabitants are of Vlach or Aromanian origin and its trade was mainly with the Vlachs that rarely understand and spoke the Vlach language.

The village was never connected with any dirt road until 1961, its road became paved in 1995. The village square is at 700 m. It also has a church. As the population was 221 in the 2001 census, its only inhabitants are the slightest.

Information

Its economy is based mainly on agricultural products and its residents also created several builders.
