CfBT Education Trust is a large educational charity in the United Kingdom, based in Reading.

History

It was founded in 1968 (as the Centre for British Teachers) by Tony Abrahams as a support service for freelance teachers working abroad.[1] It was constituted as a registered charity in 1976.[2]

It subsequently expanded into offering a range of research, consultancy and support services to the education sector and operating as a contractor for a number of UK government education initiatives, such as the Young, Gifted and Talented Programme which it managed on behalf of the then Department for Children, Schools and Families.[3]

Activities

CfBT Education Trust is a top 30 UK charity providing education services in the UK and internationally. Established over 40 years ago, CfBT has an annual turnover exceeding £100 million and employs more than 2,000 staff worldwide.

CfBT teaches in schools, academies and the secure estate, manages national education reform programmes in the UK and overseas, as well as providing advice and consultancy services to education professionals. Other work involves teacher and leadership training, curriculum design, school inspection, advice and guidance for young people and support for school improvement.

Every year CfBT finances a substantial programme of public benefit research and development
