Their tag-line is Always Promoting Sustainable Development. This organisation makes available practical and sustainable solutions to (urban related) environmental problems faced by the general public. Even as Sustainable Development and Climate Change are the fundamental issues addressed by CETDEM, the area of work covers Organic Farming, Energy, Transport and more recently, Water.
CETDEM's Organic Farming Project Coordinator operated the first Organic Farming farm in Malaysia with teaching facilities between 1986 and 1996. CETDEM project members (based on yearly subscriptions) are Farmers Group (FG), Kitchen Gardening Group (KGG), and Friends of CETDEM Organic Farming Project (FCOFP). Since 1997, the CETDEM Organic Farming Community Centre has been operating from a double-storey corner lot house which has meeting facilities, a Slow Food Kitchen and a Organic teaching Garden. Hari Organik (or Organic Day) is a half day event organised once every 2-3 months since August 2009. This event has grown from strength to strength, bringing together organic farmers, retailers, cafes, restaurants and other organic players under one banner to provide a forum for increasing awareness and interchange of ideas, through talks, demonstrations and fun events for children and adults alike.
CETDEM's involvement in the issues of Sustainable Development and Global Warming / Climate Change date back to Earth Summit 1992 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. CETDEM is a member of the Malaysian Climate Change Group, which in turn is part of Climate Action Network Southeast Asia (CANSEA), one of the regional nodes affiliated with Climate Action Network International.
