They are signed to theLive Transmission label.Career
Debut album
The Aftermath achieved the unique feat of having two top 20 singles independently by touring Ireland, playing small venues, independent record stores, lunchtime gigs and entertaining the people who bought their record. This led to the media noticing the band without the intervention of publicists. Like fellow Mullingar outfit
The Blizzards , The Aftermath developed from a band with a large local following to a band which quickly rose to national attention. Even recording their debut album was carried out modestly with the band members gathering together the required cash and moving to France to work with Karl andDave Odlum . Acquaintances from their time touring the UK helped the band - Phil Vinyl (Placebo,Elastica and Pulp) offered producer strokes, Ger McDonald (Travis andU2 ) performed mixing duties,Steve Wickham ofThe Waterboys andDamien Rice 's cellist Vyvienne Long assisted as did former Anathema bassist,Duncan Patterson andPaul Weller 's keyboardist Helen Turner who continues to play live with the band. Words of wisdom were given by the legendary producerMike Hedges and IrishJack Lyons , an old associate ofThe Who and there were contributions fromTerry Edwards , well-known for working withTindersticks , whom the band befriended when they supportedGallon Drunk andThe Ukrainians . The Aftermath were involved in a near-fatal bus crash on 13 July 2007. The crash, which took place on a Friday night, happened just outside the village of
Kilbeggan inCounty Westmeath . All four members of the band and two members of their crew were treated for injuries after the accident. The band were in the middle of an extensive Irish tour at the time in support of their "All I Want For You is to Be Happy" single. In the aftermath, Johnny Cronin said:
"We thought we were goners, we really thought that this was it - game over. It was like being in a tumble drier - only worse. It¹s a miracle we all made it out alive."
