- Phasmatodea life cycle
The life cycle of which the
Stick insect undergoes is quite remarkable starting right when the Female Parthenogenicly flicks her egg to the ground, most breeds of phasmid areparthenogenic . Then over theseasons the egg will undergo tremendouswheather but to avoid this the egg has a little fatty nob called the capitullum [egg (phasmatodea) ] which ants are attracted to, then theant takes it underground in the nest. When the seasons pass the nymph will emerge mimicing an ant, then the nymph will scuttle up a tree to begin the journey of life.Once through nymphal stage they will look like their parents, for example E.tiaratum the nymph starts as looking like an ant and when moulted it looks like a mini adult. When the nymph gets to semi adult stage is when the phasmid really needs to protect itself, some spray
fluids , some have very sharp spines and some even rely on "camouflage" to protect them selves.Adult
Adult female phasmids usually have
wing s and they cant fly but they are only good at gliding, male s on the other hand have wings compatible of flight and are usually found around lights. Females when ready to lay, they will flick the eggs to the ground were the cycle goes through the Revolutionary path again.breeding
When mating or finding a mate is quite tricky to a male phasmids point of view, being male has advantages, males can fly but when it comes to finding the right species can be difficult with males from other breeds "courting with different species" but not succeeding. The Tesselated phasmid "
ctenomorphodes tessulatus " male can mistake other breeds as the female of its own breed making different breeds but sometimes only the same breeds of the individual phasmid are laid.Additional photo cycle
