Supplemental← Route 7 Route 9 → Route 8 is a highway in eastern Missouri. Its eastern terminus is at U.S. Route 67 in Desloge. Its western terminus is at Interstate 44 in St. James. It is 2-lanes for most of its length, except a small 4-lane portion on the Crawford/Phelps county line. It acts as a bypass, from Interstate 44 in St. James, to U.S. Route 67 in Desloge. Travelers on Interstate 44 can use it to avoid the traffic problems in St. Louis, to Highway 67 in Desloge, & vice versa. Those who want to get to Ste. Genevieve take Bus. Loop 67 through Park Hills to Highway 67, to Missouri, then take Route 32 to Ste. Genevieve. There have supposedly been plans to extend Highway 8 to Ste. Genevieve. So far, those plans have not been put into effect.
Between Steelville and Potosi, Route 8 was initially Route 62 from 1922 to 1926. The route was renumbered because US 60 had been planned as US 62.
