The Diaper Bank of Southern Arizona (DBSA) is a
non-profit ,community benefit organization that collects and distributes diapers for variouscharity organizations in southernArizona . Thediaper bank runs off an organizational concept known ascommunity engagement , with aboard of directors overseeing the operation in and around theTucson area. It was founded in 1994 by Hildy Gottlieb and Dimitri Petropolis. The organization was founded as a means to provide diapers and other incontinence supplies for babies, disabled and older persons who otherwise cannot afford them.Organization
The DBSA has a linear organizational structure, where the
board of directors and anexecutive director act as the governing body of the organization, where they are directly influenced by the community they oversee. It is a non-profit organization and falls under the501(c)(3) statute under American tax law.Collection
The DBSA has various collection sites around the city of Tucson. These sites include the diaper bank headquarters, and at City Council offices, as well as various local business sites.
There are also drives within the community to collect diapers
en masse on the bank's behalf.Distribution
Collected diapers are distributed by the Pima County Health Department and 55 community partner agencies.
Community impact
The significance of the organization, along with the concept of a diaper bank as a whole, is that it provides goods and services that are not covered by government-aided personal wellness programs such as
