Royston John Mastel CVO CBE (
30 May 1917 –7 April 1988 ) was a Britishpolice officer in theLondon Metropolitan Police .Mastel was educated at
Tottenham Grammar School and joined the Metropolitan Police as aConstable in 1937. He served as a pilot in theRoyal Air Force Volunteer Reserve from 1941 to 1945, being commissioned from the rank ofFlight Sergeant in May 1944 [LondonGazette |issue=36612 |date=14 July 1944 |startpage=3337 |supp=yes] and promotedFlying Officer in November 1944.
