Brunswick Central School District is a suburban to rural public school district located 5.5 miles east north east of the city of Troy in the town of Brunswick in Rensselaer County, New York. The district comprises of two operating school buildings: Tamarac Elementary School (Pre-K through 5) and Tamarac Secondary School (6 through 12). The district is a member of the Rensselaer-Columbia-Greene Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES), known as [http://www.questar.org/ Questar III] .

The district is bordered by [http://www.hoosicvalley.k12.ny.us/ Hoosic Valley Central School District] and [http://hoosick.ny.schoolwebpages.com/education/school/school.php?sectionid=10719 Hoosick Falls Central School District] to the north; [http://www.berlincentral.org/ Berlin Central School District] to the east; [http://www.averillpark.k12.ny.us/ Averill Park Central School District] to the south; and [http://www.troy.k12.ny.us/ Troy City School District] and [http://www.lansingburgh.org/ Lansingburgh Central School District] to the west. History

"Brittonkill"

While the official name of the district is that of the encompassing town, the name Brittonkill has commonly been in use for more than thirty-five years. [http://tamarac1972.org/Graphics/1972.gif1972 Graduation Exercises Program.] Retrieved 02 October 2008] The name Brittonkill is a combination of the names of the four main towns served by the district: Brunswick, Pittstown, Grafton, and Poestenkill. A very small part of the town of Schaghticoke is also within the district's boundaries.

The name can be found in use throughout the district. For example, the school's website uses the name Brittonkill rather than Brunswick (http://brittonkill.k12.ny.us), the district seal (see above) uses Brittonkill, and all district buses are labeled with Brittonkill. In addition, the Brittonkill Teachers' Association, [http://www.brittonkill.k12.ny.us/ptsa/ Brittonkill PTSA] , [http://www.brittonkill.k12.ny.us/servicelearning/beep/index.htm Brittonkill Educational Enrichment Program] , and [http://www.brittonkill.k12.ny.us/bef/ Brittonkill Education Foundation] all make use of the name.

Media and official references to the district typically use the name Brunswick [ [http://timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=687228 Rensselaer County School Budget and Board of Education Election Results] . Albany Times Union. 21 May, 2008. Retrieved 30 September 2008.] (as with budget votes and school closings) and sometimes "Brunswick (Brittonkill)". Sports reports will usually reference the Tamarac Bengals.

Infrastructure

Besides the two school buildings on the main campus, the district also owns another school building in Pittstown. Formerly known as Parker School, [coord|42|49|49.26|N|73|28|58.92|W] it is currently used by Questar III and is known as Mountain View Academy. [ [https://www.questar.org/facilities/brunswick.htm Questar III Facilities: Mountain View Academy] . Retrieved 30 September 2008.] It underwent significant renovations during the summer of 2008. The district also owns a one-room school house on the corner of Buck Road and Brick Church Road, [coord|42|45|04.25|N|73|34|28.78|W] which, with the help of the Brunswick Historical Society, just recently underwent minor renovations and was added to the National Register of Historic Places.Fact|date=October 2008

The campus has one main sports field, complete with bleachers, a reporters' box, consession stand, and newly installed storage building. The track that surrounds the main field underwent a significant upgrade in the late 1990s from a small dirt track to a professional running track. The field is used for both football and soccer. The area is also used for track and field events such as high jump, long jump, and pole vault. Elsewhere on campus there are three soccer fields, one baseball diamond, two softball diamonds, one outdoor basketball court, and two tennis courts.Fact|date=October 2008

The district owns and runs its own bussing service. The bus garage is located on Tamarac Road, about one half mile from the main campus. [coord|42|45|23.66|N|73|34|01.64|W]

The main campus is serviced by a trickling filter type wastewater treatment plant, which replaced a large septic tank and leech field in the early 2000s.Fact|date=October 2008

Almost all facilities owned by the district underwent some renovation, especially the Secondary School and Elementary School. In addition, Parker School and the district's bus garage received many upgrades.

Within the Secondary School, the high school gym floor and bleachers were removed and replaced. The middle school gym floor was sanded and refinished. The canopy over the main entrance was replaced from a flat, wooden structure to a whimsical, curved metal canopy. The main entrance was reconfigured to allow a district employee to allow visitors in the building manually. The district auditorium has undergone a complete renovation, including the installation of a new sound booth and new seats throughout the room. Its stage has been refinished and curtains replaced. Other upgrades to the building, which most visitors and students will not notice, are the installation of a new phone system, upgrade in video surveillance system (including added cameras), upgrades to the HVAC system, and general upgrades throughout the building: doors, hardware, windows, and so on.

In the Elementary School, similar upgrades took place: new phone system, upgraded surveillance system, and refinished gym floor.

Parker School experienced a minor rearrangement of offices and the gym received new windows. Outdoor lighting was installed and upgrades to ventilation system, boiler room, and electronic controls took place.

At the bus garage, a lift was replaced, a new fire alarm system was installed, and new offices were installed.

Most aspects of the project are complete. Still ongoing are the upgrades in the auditorium and high school gym.
