In 1981, the Somerset Baptist Christian School commenced under the leadership of the Church, the Pastor and the Deacons, as a ministry of the Somerset Baptist Church. The school began in the church building, in Simpson Street, with 14 pupils from grades 1 to 6. The school has grown steadily since its inauguration up to its present size. In 1992, the school and church moved to the current location. This pleasant rural setting of 8.8 hectares is on Seabrook Road, Somerset.
In 1999, there was a change in the governing body of the school. The school board, now independent of the church, consists of church members and operates under the banner of Seabrook Christian Education Services Inc, a non-profit organization. The school itself is now called Seabrook Christian School. Later in 2001, a government grant was awarded to the school to purchase the buildings and to erect a new administration block. Formerly both school and church utilized the building; however, the church is now using its own building.
The school caters for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 in a co-educational family atmosphere. The school continues to develop its facilities and to further improve the quality of its educational delivery.
In 2000, the school commenced a distance education program using the Somerset campus and commencing two other campuses at Launceston and St Helens. The St Helens campus developed into a full-time school in 2002 and a fourth distance education campus was begun at Kingston/Ranelagh. Launceston commenced full-time schooling in 2004. The school has shown steady growth and has been blessed with committed staff. Truly, we can testify of God, “Great is thy faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:23)
