There is little which is certainly known of William Sharrock's immediate family. The Sharrock family may originally have come from Shropshire as followers of John William's (died 1033), High Steward of Scotland and ancestor of the Stewart family. The early members of the family are recorded as holding land in Haddingtonshire. [1]
