Unveiled at Jason Calacanis' and Michael Arrington's TechCrunch50 conference, Fitbit is headquartered in San Francisco, CA and led by Eric Friedman and James Park (both formerly of Windup Labs, which was acquired by CNET in 2005).

Fitbit Tracker

The Tracker is tiny and clip-shaped, about the size of a human thumb. It records data throughout the day through a motion sensor much like the technology used for the Wii Remote. It then transmits the data through a wireless connection to software on the user's computer which allows them to view their data through the Fitbit website. The Fitbit Tracker is $99 (USD) and the use of the website will be free, with a premium subscription option. Though pre-ordering is an option, device itself is not yet available, and is expected to be ready for shipping in late December 2008 or early January 2009.
