website = http://www.podkowalesna.pl Podkowa Leśna [IPA-pl|p|o|t|'|k|o|w|a|-|'|l|e|ś|n|a] (literal meaning - "forest horseshoe", Polish in full: "Miasto-ogród Podkowa Leśna" - "Garden-City Podkowa Leśna") is a town in Grodzisk Mazowiecki County (Masovian Voivodeship) of Poland and located in Łowicko–Błońska Plain on the territory of Młochowskie Forests. City status - from January 1, 1969. The city holds also a status of gmina. Population - ca. 3500. Founded in 1911. In 1930 the city accepted a status of gromada, which belonged to the gmina Helenów. On September 1, 1939 Podkowa Leśna has suffered from some Luftwaffe bombs intended for Warsaw. On January 17, 1945 Germans had left Podkowa Leśna.

The forests surround the city from three sides (eastern, southern and northern). In 1930 "Stowarzyszenie Miłośników Miasta–Ogrodu Podkowy Leśnej" ("Association of amateurs of the City-garden Podkowa Leśna") was created. In April of 1933 it changed its name to "Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Miasta–Ogrodu Podkowa Leśna".
