Chunapur is a very old village situated 3 km west to Purnia town in the state of Bihar, India. This village is situated on the bank of 'Kari Koshi' a tributary of River Koshi. The village is best known for the Roys who were one of the biggest Zamindars of Bihar. The most prominent amongst them was Late Baidya Nath Roy. The village is very rich insofar as education is concerned. There are more than 15 doctors, 20 - 25 engineers, many administrative officers, eozens of lawyers. Prominent amongst the successful professionals are Dr. Mohan Roy, a renowned cardio-vascular surgeon in USA, Dr. V.C.Roy, an eminent orthopedic surgeon of India, Rajeeva Roy, a prominent advocate practicing in Patna High Court (Bihar) and Supreme Court of India, besides many teachers, professors, politicians. The village came into limelight when the government of India constructed a huge aerodrome for strategic purposes known as Chunapur Aerodrom. The newer generation of the family have also made foot print in the field of Economics and Finance of late. The younger brother of Late Sri Baidyanath Roy, late Sri Deo Nath Roy was veteran freedom fighter and a former MLA. His daughter H'ble Justice Smt. Mridula Mishra is a sitting judge of Patna High Court. Dr.Daman Roy is his eldest son who is a eminent and well known Surgeon. His second son is a Mechanical Engineer and Private Surveyor. His youngest son Advocate Gyanand Roy is well known and respectable lawyer practicing at Patna High Court.
