Career

Born in Union, New Jersey, Fred Sampson began watching professional wrestling during the mid-1980s and became interested in becoming a professional wrestler as a teenager. He researched a number of wrestling schools before deciding on Camp IWF in northern New Jersey. This was due in part to his employer, whose uncle was a friend of a local wrestler training there at the time, and helped him enroll in the wrestling school.

Sampson made his professional debut in 2002 and spent over two years on the independent circuit and spent time in the Independent Wrestling Federation and Chaotic Wrestling during his early career. Shortly after entering the promotion, Sampson began feuding with Prince Nana over the ECWA Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Championship and eventually defeated him for the title in Newark, Delaware on September 18, 2004. On January 21, 2005, Sampson made his return to the IWF defeating Roman in a four-way match with Biggie Biggs and Shane O'Brien to regain the title. On January 2, 2006, Sampson made another WWE appearance when he teamed with Scotty Charisma against The Heart Throbs (Antonio Thomas & Romeo Roselli) in a dark match on "WWE Raw" and, four days later, against The Dicks (Chad & James) on "Smackdown". On February 25, he and Dan McGuire joined Tito Santana in a 6-man tag team match to defeat Kevin Knight, Shawn Donovan & Travis Blake in West Paterson. He later went on to defeat Travis Blake in the main event. He also began wrestling for National Wrestling Superstars losing to The Patriot both in a singles match and in a best 2-of-3 falls 6-man tag team match later on in the show. Despite this loss, he and Bulldog Collare captured the NWS Tag Team titles from TNT & Saddam Insane three days later. Returning to Chaotic Wrestling in the fall, Sampson defeated Psycho for the Chaotic Wrestling New England Heavyweight title on September 8. Losing to Chase Del Monte by countout at the end of the month, he and Bulldog Collare also lost to Ace Darling & Shane Taylor at an NWS show on October 14. A week later, Sampson lost to Brian Fury in a non-title match as well as to Salvatore Sincere on November 3. He made three more appearances on "WWE Raw" against Charlie Haas at the First Mariner Arena on November 20, Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch at the Mohegan Sun Arena on December 11 and Christian York at the Verizon Center on December 18, 2006. The first two matches were later seen on "WWE Heat". On December 28, Sampson was one of 20 independent wrestlers who participated in try-out matches for WWE at the Continental Airlines Arena. On January 20, 2007, The Masked BoneCrusher won a $5,000 Battle Royal. As part of the pre-match stipulation agreed to by IWF Commissioner Rich Ross, Sampson was allowed to rejoin the IWF on the condition that be became a member the "heel" stable The Ross Family. This event was broadcast on the premiere episode of "IWF Eruption TV" as part of the countdown to the "Winter Warfare" supercard. Spending the summer and early fall in Chaotic Wrestling, he lost to Bryan Logan on May 18 and Chaotic Wrestling New England Heavyweight Champion Brian Fury in a ladder match on June 15. He also formed a tag team with Rick Fuller but lost to Chase Del Monte & Brandon Locke on July 13. A match between them the following month ended in a no-contest and, under manager Johnny Fabulous, they defeated Franciz & Sean Moore on September 7. He and Fuller lost to Mind Over Matter (Maverick Wild & Dr. Reginald Heresy) on October 19 and, a month later, he lost to Maverick Wild in a singles match on November 2. Although tag team partner Rick Fuller was in his corner, outside interference from Dr. Reginald Heresy caused him to lose the match. Sampson would face and lose to Heresy on December 14. On January 19, 2008, Sampson lost to Salvatore Sincere at an NWS show. Prior to the match, he had defeated Sincere in a "Body Beautiful Posedown" when the crowd overwhelmingly applauded for him. The next night, he defeated IWF Heavyweight Champion Tony Torres via disqualification. On February 23, Sampson defeated Tookie Tucker the Wrestlin' Trucker and Nick Neighborhood in a three-way match for East Coast Championship Wrestling. Later that night, he lost to Rick Fuller in another three-way match Tomasso Ciampa for the ECCW Triple Threat championship. This was a "triple threat" tournament final. He returned to Chaotic Wrestling during the summer and teamed with Rick Fuller to win the Chaotic Wrestling Tag Team titles from The Blowout Boys (Danny E. & Tommy T.) in Lawrence, Massachusetts on June 27.
