New Wave musician, younger brother ofBe Bop Deluxe guitarist Bill Nelson. He was born inWakefield ,Yorkshire ,England onApril 23 1956 , being the only brother of Bill. His father Walter taught him to play saxophone, although he also played keyboards.His first participation was on the Be Bop Deluxe song "Ships In The Night" from the "Sunburst Finish" album (1976). When this band split up, Bill reunited that group's keyboardist, Andy Clark, and Ian on saxophone, forming
Red Noise .After Red Noise split up, Nelson spent collaborating in his brother Bill solo career. In 1982 joined Fiat Lux, band during three years were releasing a number of singles and doing gigs around England until 1985 when broke up.
He died in his sleep on
