Zhenghua Primary School was established in 1989, with a student population of 560 and a teaching staff of 28. The school was named after the former Cheng Hwa Public School which was closed in 1985, after 44 years of history.
While waiting for the premises to be ready, the school was housed temporarily at Keming Primary School. The new premises were formally handed over on 4th November 1989 and the school moved in on 30th November 1989. The school fielded its first batch of PSLE candidates in 1990 and obtained an overall pass of 95.7%.
The school is in its nineteenth year of existence under the leadership of 3 principals – Mr Chan Kok Min, Mdm Lee Tee Choon and the current principal, Mr Koh Chin Thong. The enrolment of the school has been high and to date we have 2202 pupils in 62 classes. In 2005, the school underwent PRIME and was in the holding site in 38 Teck Whye Crescent while the Fajar Road site is being upgraded. The school returned to the Fajar Road site in May 2006. The school is now equipped with excellent facilities to educate our pupil population of 2200.

The school has over two thousand
student s and a hundred staff. The principal is Koh Chin Thong, Martin who took over from Lee Tee Choon on 15 December 2005. It is a double-session school, with a portion of the pupil population (Primary 1 and 2) attends classes in the afternoon, while the remainder (Primary 3 to 6) attends classes in the morning. Co-curricular activities are held on Thursdays and Fridays.A few pupils have so far entered the Gifted Education Program

The school is noted for its strength in the
aesthetics : the performing arts; music and art, having won national & international awards for Chinese dance, Malay dance, Indian dance, as well as winning national awards for their band and choir.Their brass band was also the first of it's kind set up in Singapore by Mr Simon Ng; The Original Dancing Band. From the founding, the band won 5 consecutive Gold awards at the Singapore Youth Festival from 1990 to 2000 and performed at numerous events and functions. With their great success and tremendous support from their 1st principal, Mr Chan Kok Ming, the band was able to obtain international recognition and were invited to perform internationally in countries such as Australia, USA, Thailand, Malaysia and Hongkong.

Other success for the school includes rugby and soccer, where the school has attained the highest achievement at national level. For instance, the rugby team was west zone champion (junior) in 2005 and 2006, and national runner-up in 2006.
Their
infocomm club also won a silver in a 'docudrama' video in 2006.External links
