Matthew Ryan Hullum (born August 15), better known by his ring name Matt Cage, is a American professional wrestler. He competes in North American independent promotions. He is currently the reigning DynastyPRO Wrestling Heavyweight Champion.

Professional wrestling career

Early career

At age eighteen, he signed up with the WWA4 wrestling school where head trainers, Curtis Hughes and Elix Skipper taught him. [ [] ] After a month of training, Cage made his debut for Rocky King's Boulware Wrestling Association on July 29, 2007. In his first match, he lost against Reece Royale. Later on in the evening, he'd come up short against Reece a second time. In a 2008 interview with The Nose Bleed Seats, Cage would state that the match was impromptu and he was only meant to manage. [ [ The Nose Bleed Seats, (2008-08-07)] ] In the next few weeks, Royale would take Cage under his wing and they'd form a successful tandem in the Wrestling Beyond Imagination promotion based out of Douglasville, Georgia. The duo feuded with Cameron Valentine throughout the month of August and into September before Royale was forced back to England when Valentine defeated Cage in a bout.

Over the next few months, Cage would have matches with various other trainees and competitors at the WWA4 wrestling school before he relocating to Springfield, Illinois in January 2008.

There, Cage and Nic Mir, another WWA4 alumni began a rivalry in both the Unified Wrestling Conglomerate and the Old School Wrestling Alliance. Cage picked up Joel The Bouncer as his bodyguard during this time period. The feud between Mir and Cage had yet to be resolved when Mir took a sabbatical from the business in July 2008.

In May 2008, Cage would join Great American Wrestling where he'd receive a Heavyweight Title match against then champion, Jaxson Pride. He was unsuccessful, though he impressed many and became a mainstay of the promotion, entering a feud with then GAW Central States Champion, Cecil Cerveza. At GAW United We Stand on July 19, 2008, Cage would lead his team consisting of his bodyguard Joel and Devon & Mason Cutter to victory over Team Cerveza when Cecil's teammates, Andy Roberts and Temple Rain turned their backs on him.

Cage would receive his first title victory in his career on July 4, 2008 in Buffalo, Iowa when WPPF (formerly OSWA) awarded him the Heavyweight Title. However, by the end of the evening, Cage had been subsequently been stripped of the belt. This situation was rectified when he was granted a shot at the WPPF New Wave Championship, held by Gavin Alexander, on July 12, 2008. First, Cage won his number one contenders match against Felix Skipper and his own bodyguard, Joel and then went on to defeat Gavin to become the champion. Later that evening, Cage cemented his spot as a top heel when he along with ally Nick Cutler, beat down Cowboy Bob Orton after his title match against Cutler.

On September 14, 2008, Matt Cage defeated Shane Hollister and Marek Brave in a triple threat match to become the first ever DynastyPRO Heavyweight Champion.
