25 August 1944 by Walter Butler Shipbuilding Co.,Superior, Wisconsin , under aU.S. Maritime Commission contract; sponsored by Miss Marion Crowley; acquired by the Navy1 August 1945 ; and commissioned7 September 1945 , Lt. S. Bernsen in command.World War II-related service
After shakedown out of
Galveston, Texas , "Kenosha" arrivedGulfport, Mississippi ,19 October to load cargo for theMariana Islands . The cargo ship departed Gulfport25 November , cleared thePanama Canal , and arrivedGuam viaPearl Harbor 10 January 1946 .Upon discharging her cargo, she loaded cargo for the
U.S. Marines and sailed for theU.S. East Coast , arrivingLynnhaven Roads ,Virginia ,7 March .Decommissioning
On
3 April "Kenosha" arrivedBaltimore, Maryland , and decommissioned there16 April 1946 . She was returned to a Norwegian shipping firm in 1947, and renamed "Rio Dale". She was renamed "Torian" in 1959.Honors and awards
