- SOS triathlon
=Description=
The SOS triathlon is a typical
triathlon turned on its head and made more challenging. The race is held in theShawangunk Mountains ofNew York State . SOS stands for "Survival of the Shawangunks" and involves 30 miles of cycling, a combined 18 miles of running and 2 miles of swimming. The first event is a bicycle time trial that ends in a 5 mile climb. The bike is followed by a 4.5 mile run on a carriage road and trail and then a swim. The challenging part starts at the swim. Since you won't be finishing where you start you will need to find a way to take your running gear with you while you swim. Unlike traditional triathlons the the running is broken into four different stages and the swims into three different lake swims. Each stage starts and ends at a different place requiring competitors to be self sufficient in regards to the gear they will carry from the start of the run to the finish.External links
