David Halpin born (09 November 1945) in Bolton, Lancashire, England is an abstract painter, now based in Bangor, North Wales. His works include some of the area's best known landmarks and places including Moelfre, Dolbadarn Castle and 'The Menai Suspension Bridge. During his short period as an artist, he has produced many forms of art, including, paintings, drawings and sketches.He is known as the 'garage artist' as he has painted all his artwork from his own garage.

Biography

Early Years

David was born in Bolton, England, in 1945. Coming from a family who had a background in the art world, David Halpin would not enter this side of his life until the year 2000. After leaving school, David Halpin joined the RAF and was instantly taken to the middle east, were he spent a couple of years serving his country. Fact|date|date=September 2008

Wales

David Halpin moved to RAF Valley on Anglesey in his early 20s and eventually married at Bangor Cathedral in October 1968.Soon after, David was commissioned to write a welsh song which was recorded by the Islanders, a group based on Anglesey. The song which was called 'Ti'n Wastad yn fy Nghalon' which translate to 'You will also be in my heart' reached number one, in the welsh charts in the 80s. Fact|date|date=September 2008

Painting

ln early 2007 his talents took a new twist. For the first time David picked up a paint brush and began a fantastic journey in oils, painting seascapes and landscapes of his adopted homeland of Wales. He summitted his paintings to a number of galleries throughout the area, all accepting and calling them a 'breath of fresh air'.Fact|date|date=September 2008David Halpin paints using oils which are generally landscapes and seacapes. Art Work

Parys Mountain

One of his first paintings and a number of name changes from 'The Mountain', 'Mountain View' to the finally Parys Mountain [ [http://www.caersiddi.com/galeri/mynyddparys Landscape that inspired the painting 'Parys Mounatin'] .] , which was the location of the painting. Due to the location of this copper mine, it would have been inpossible for anyone to paint the mountain within the distance that David Halpin did, but in early 2000, Anglesey Mining plc which owns the mine, opened to the public. This enabled David Halpin to create this superb painting of the mountain.Fact|date|date=September 2008

The Menai Suspension Bridge

Living near the bridge for most of his life, David couldnt not miss the opportunty to paint, North Wales most known landmark in the world, the Menai Suspension Bridge could he? Well he nearly did, Arcording to his agent, David Halpin didnt want do create 'another' painting of the bridge.Fact|date|date=September 2008 But in early 2008, he was commissioned by Lord Tudor-Jones to paint the Menai Suspension Bridge with a sunset look to the painting.Fact|date|date=September 2008 Despite the heavy rain and wind while taking a number of photographs of different angles and backdrops of the bridge, he more then achieved a classic and unique twist with his own version of the Menai Suspension Bridge.Fact|date|date=September 2008

Dolbadarn Castle

Despite only being 10 minutes away from where David Halpin lived, he had never seen or heard of Dolbadarn Castle, until early 2007, where he was taken to film a short documentry on his poetry. He instantly fell in love with the place. A few months after David Halpin re-visited Dolbadarn Castle one summers morning and painted the location from a near by field.Fact|date|date=September 2008

Moelfre

Moelfre is a small villiage on Anglesey, where David Halpin first started painting. Which its rich history with its fishing boats and beautiful backdrops, it inspired David Halpin to create an outstanding and creative painting. Decribed as one of his best works, the painting 'Moelfre' can be seen in many galleries across the UK, including the new Oriel Ynys Môn on Anglesey.Fact|date|date=September 2008
