Gloucestershire Airport Airport codes|GLO|EGBJ, formerly Staverton Airport, is located in Staverton, Gloucestershire, England, between the city of Gloucester and the town of Cheltenham, and close to the M5 motorway. It is Gloucestershire's largest general aviation airfield [According to the sign at the entrance to the airport (see photo on official web site) it's "The Southwest's Premier General Aviation Airport"] . It is regularly used for private charter flights to destinations such as Jersey and Guernsey, and the airline Manx2 now operates scheduled flights from the Airport.

ervices and Facilities

Many of the flights to and from the airport are for business purposes, but there are also a large proportion of domestic flights, recreational flights, and training flights.

The airport houses many flying schools, including those specialised in helicopter and aeroplane training. Many people opt to do their pilot's licence training at the airport.

Location maps can be found at [http://www.manx2.com/cgi-bin/airkiosk/I7/191003?070706133224.87.254.80.159.27454+/manx2/I7/EN/static/gloucester.html Manx2 Destinations] and also at [http://www.gloucestershireairport.co.uk/Directions.php GloucestershireAirport.co.uk] The airport has a Pilot Shop, and is also home to "The Aviator" restaurant and bar.

Manx2 promotes the airport as "Gloucester (M5) Airport" [ [http://www.manx2.com/manx2/I7/EN/images/manx2_Gloucester_AccessAllAreas.pdf Manx2 Press Release] referring to Gloucestershire Airport as Gloucester (M5)] .

Expansion Plans

Gloucestershire Airport currently plans to expand [ [http://www.tewkesburybc.gov.uk/ Tewkesbury Council - Planning Applications] 06/01668/FUL, 06/01669/FUL, 06/01670/FUL and 06/01671/FUL, pending consideration] in order to lengthen a runway [ [http://www.gloucestershireairport.co.uk/FAQ.php#1 Gloucestershire Airport FAQs] regarding expansion and runway extension] . The plans are controversial and have proved divisive amongst the local community and authorities. [ [http://www.bbc.co.uk/gloucestershire/content/articles/2007/05/14/staverton_runway_feature.shtml BBC Gloucestershire Feature] on Gloucestershire Airport expansion, including audio interview with airport director and local views] [ [http://www.visit-gloucestershire.co.uk/boards/index.php?showtopic=2769&st=45 Visit Gloucestershire] - local message board discussion on the impact of expansion] Environmentalists have objected to the expansion due to potential for increases in CO2 emissions.
