Mt. Shasta Brewing Company is a microbrewery based in Weed, California. It is owned by Vaunne and Barbara Dillman. Commercial production began in 2003. Mount Shasta Brewing Company is licensed to distribute its beers in the states of California, Oregon, and Washington.
The company slogan "Try Legal Weed" appears on the bottle caps of each product in MSBC's line. In 2008, the company was ordered to remove the slogan by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau because of perceived endorsement of illegal drug use. The Dillman's argued that they were within their First Amendment rights because the slogan refers to the town of Weed and advertises a legal product. No lawsuit was filed. The ATTTB reversed their decision after additional review.[1][2]
