Slovak National Archives

The Slovak National Archives were created in 1928. They are under the authority of the Minister of the Interior. They are located in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Interesting facts The section of "New History" contains so many documents that if the files (in which the documents are stored) were put side by side they would cover a distance of cca 22 km. (There are 8 files in one meter making 1 file 12,5 cm wide.) There are 500-1000 papers in every single file (avg. 750). Thus, the "New History" section contains 176000 files and approximately 132 millions of papers (= pages). If you were to put all the papers in a line (by length) you would cover a distance of 39204 km ( length of equator minus cca 871 km). However, were you to put them one after another diagonally (app 36,4 cm), you would get a distance of 48048 km which is the whole equator plus 8048 km (that's like 112 times airwise the most western to the most eastern point of Slovakia or four time around all the borders of USA). As written above, there are approximatelly 132000000 sheets of paper in the section of "New History". To read one paper takes about 5–10 minutes, avg. 7.5. So to read all these papers would take (one person) cca 990000000 minutes, that is 16500000 hours, which makes it 687500 days or 98212,58 weeks or 22602,73 months or 1883,56 years. Now, no-one works full time 24/7 , do we... so lets say that one worker works 8 hours a day. That makes it three times more - 5650,68 years. Productive time of one person is approximately 45 years. So it would take 125,57 people - 126 in fact as we can't really divide a person into fractions - their whole lives to just read through the section of "New History". The building of SNA has 9 floors which makes it 1130,136 (1131) people needed to make the institution work.
