website = [http://www.ctsstudies.org/ CTSstudies.org]Cummins Memorial Theological Seminary is a seminary of the
Reformed Episcopal Church located inSummerville, South Carolina , outsideCharleston , named for George Cummins, the founder of theReformed Episcopal Church . The seminary was founded at the end of the nineteenth century as a rogative college, meaning it was located wherever the Bishop of South Carolina took up residence. In 1912, the Diocese of South Carolina purchase property for a permanent campus. The seminary offers residential programs at the undergraduate levelBachelor of Theology (BTh), and for graduates already holding theBachelor's degree is theMaster of Divinity (MDiv), and a recognized Certificate in Theological Studies offered in residence.Cummins Seminary offers an External Studies Department for persons unable to attend a seminary on campus. The web address for the External Studies Program is [http://www.ctsstudies.org ctsstudies.org] .
The mission of Cummins Seminary is :To ground the student in the teaching of the Holy Scripture, as that teaching has been interpreted by the early Church Fathers and the English Reformers, and as that teaching has been given flesh within the liturgical tradition of the historic Church. For those men who are not able to attend a residence program of theological instruction, this program is an alternative. It will not be an easy program. It will require commitment and dedication and long hours of reading and writing. The staff of the external studies department stands ready to assist you in making this a successful program of study. Currently the MDiv program is being restructured; interested students may enroll at any of the other REC seminaries (see below) or at
Erskine Seminary inDue West, South Carolina or Gordon-Conwell inCharlotte, North Carolina and transfer for credit to Cummins when the restructuring is complete. The seminary is accredited by the Theological Commission of the Reformed Episcopal Church and the Commission of Higher Education in the State of South Carolina (CHESC).
