Priscilla Lord Faris is an American lawyer and Democratic politician. She was a candidate for the Democratic nomination in the 2008 Minnesota U.S. Senate election.

Biography

Lord Faris was born in Minneapolis to Miles and Maxine Lord. Her father would later serve as Minnesota Attorney General from 1955 to 1960 and then as U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota. She had a brother, Jim, who was a state senator and State Treasurer (1975-1983).

A graduate of the University of Minnesota, she worked for Hubert Humphrey, as both Senator and Vice President, and Young Life before teaching third grade and special education. She worked in investment real estate for ten years, and once sat on the Sunfish Lake City Council.

Lord Faris, who obtained a law degree from Hamline University, opened her own practice as a personal injury lawyer in 1993. In 2006 and 2007, she was named a Minnesota Super Lawyer by [http://www.lawandpolitics.com/ Minnesota Law & Politics] .

In July 2008, she announced that she would be challenging comedian Al Franken, who had been endorsed by the state Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, for the party's nomination in the U.S. Senate election. She lost the September 9 primary, garnering only 29.7 percent of the vote.

She is married to fellow attorney Wayne Faris, with whom she had three children. Her teenaged son was killed by a drunk driver in 1989, after which she spent two years lobbying for MADD and advocating social host legislation.
