Lord Faris was born in Minneapolis to Miles and Maxine Lord. Her father would later serve as Minnesota Attorney General from
1955 to1960 and then as U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota. She had a brother, Jim, who was a state senator and State Treasurer (1975 -1983 ).A graduate of the
University of Minnesota , she worked forHubert Humphrey , as both Senator and Vice President, andYoung Life before teachingthird grade andspecial education . She worked in investment real estate for ten years, and once sat on the Sunfish LakeCity Council .Lord Faris, who obtained a law degree from Hamline University, opened her own practice as a

July 2008 , she announced that she would be challengingcomedian Al Franken , who had been endorsed by the state Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, for the party's nomination in the U.S. Senate election.
