History
Đukić family stems from the clan of Vasojevići, which formed in the area of Lijeva Rijeka north of Podgorica in Montenegro proper. The clan is of E1b1b1 haplogroup, E1b1b1a2 subclade, and it originates from Hellenic tribes which colonized southern Adriatic after 800 B.C. Following the formation of Illyrian society, Vasojevic's ancestors assimmilated into dominant Illyrian culture. Finally, with the arrival of Slavs to the Balkans, Vasojevic's ancestors adopted a South Slavic language. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]
Vasojevic tribe was first mentioned in 1444. This surname is named after one Đuka, a great-great-grandson of Vaso, purported progentior of the Vasojevic clan.[6] After 1660, Stanj, a grandson of Đuka, moved to village Cecuni in the vicinity of Andrijevica towards river Lim. Around 1750, Stanj's grandson Uroš moved to Polica near Berane in Sanjak of Novi Pazar.
Around 1800, the sons of Uroš - Čukan, Miloš and Vukić, after the battle against the Turks at Cecarevina near Berane, in which several of their family members were killed, moved to a village Boguti near Sjenica, following which, after an incident with the local Albanian clan, the three brothers dispersed throughout Sandžak:
- Vukić moved to a village Erčege just north of Sandžak, present day municipality of Ivanjica. Most of his descendants moved back to Polica around 1840.
- Miloš' family, sons Smajo and Sejfo, moved back to a hamlet Goražde in Polica, where their descendants lived up until late 1950s.
- Čukan's sons dispersed throughout Pešter Plateau, with Ramo staying in Boguti, Šeho moving to Žitniće, NN1 moving to Tuzinje), NN2 moving to Melaje (his descendants would then move to Čarovina and Crnoća), while the youngest Halil moved to Dujke (his descendants would then resettle in Raždaginja and Trijebine).
