Benjamin Franklin Jones was a pioneer of the iron and steel industry in Pittsburgh. [cite journal |title=Family's Fourth |journal=Time |year=1936 |issue=April 13 |url=http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,756010-2,00.html |accessdate=2008-08-09] Originally involved in the river barge industry, he purchased a share in American Iron Works in 1851, along with Bernard Lauth. He later joined with James H. Laughlin to form J&L Steel, a steel mill heavily dependent on river transportation.He was executor of Laughlin's estate.
