Cooperative Management and Protection Area

There is only one "Cooperative Management and Protection Area" (CMPA) in the United States, and that is the Steens Mountain CMPA in Oregon. It is part of the National Landscape Conservation System managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This area was set aside “In order to protect the riparian, aquatic, wildlife, archeological, watershed, paleontological, scenic, historic, economic, scientific, cultural, educational, and recreational resources of the public lands on and adjacent to the Steens Mountain in Harney County, Oregon.”
