Kryptos is a heavy metal band from Bangalore, India, formed in 1998 by Nolan Lewis (vocals/guitars) and Ganesh K (ex- Vocalist/bassist).[1][2] Since their inception, the band has released two albums. The first album Spiral Ascent released in 2004 did exceedingly well and made an impact in the underground.[3] This led to the band signing a deal with Old School Metal Records in 2008.[4]

History

Early years (1998-2003)

Mankatha Kryptos was formed in late 1998,[5] They are essentially a melodic metal band with elements of 80's thrash metal. Important influences include Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden along with Coroner, Kreator and Candlemass.[6][7]

Debut Album (2004)

The first album Spiral Ascent was released in 2004, which quickly spread through the underground circuit of India as well as countries like Germany, Argentina and other parts of Europe. Dark Tranquillity's Niklas Sundin contributed to the album cover.

Signing with Old School Metal Records(2006)

In April 2006, Kryptos signed with Old School Metal Records from California, U.S.A, and became one of the first metal bands from India to be signed by an international label.[8] The band entered the studios later that year to record the follow up to their debut album, and finally emerged in mid-2008 with their second album, The Ark Of Gemini.

“The Ark of Gemini”, their second album, received excellent reviews from different parts of the world and also enjoyed a fair amount of airplay on U.S and European metal radio stations.[9]

Supporting Iron Maiden (2009)

Kryptos had a supporting slot for Iron Maiden at Rock'n India 2009, playing to almost 17,000 fans at the Palace Grounds at the critically acclaimed second edition of the festival.[10]

2010 and present

In July 2010 Kryptos became the first Indian metal band to complete a cross country tour of Europe,[11] playing at the Rockmaraton festival in Hungary, the In Flammen Open Air festival in Germany as well as many more club gigs throughout Germany and Switzerland.

Kryptos also landed endorsement deals with Mapex Drums and ESP Guitars

The Coils of Apollyon

Kryptos Recently announced the name of their third album The Coils of Apollyon which is scheduled to be released in late 2011.[12]

In August, the band announced that they would be touring 30 Indian cities over a period of 40 days, starting in Bangalore on 29 October, which is considered to be one of the most ambitious tours ever undertaken by any Indian band who have less than 100000 fans.
