computer game developed by David Snyder and published byBrøderbund .Description
The player controls (rides, by game description citation | date = Fall 1983 | author = Chris Vogeli | periodical = [http://www.atarimagazines.com/cva/v1n2/apple2games.php Creative Computing Video & Arcade Games] | title = Five Great Games For The Apple Computer | year = 1983 | pages = 100] ) a multi-segmented blue 'good' serpent in a maze with an objective of eliminating the computer controlled 'evil' (red or orange) serpents. The player can eat the tail segments of serpents to make them shorter and can hit them head first and eliminate them and grow one segment if their serpent has more segments than the computer serpent. A frog appears at random intervals and gives the serpent eating it an additional segment. As the game progresses, opposing serpents are faster and larger, increasing the difficulty.
One unique aspect of the game is how extra lives are gained. The playing serpent will lay an egg (losing a segment in the process) and given enough time, this egg hatches and runs to the protected area. Enemy snakes will also lay eggs and if one hatches, a new opposing serpent appears (new snakes start with 2 segments). It is possible to lose the last segment to an egg, resulting in death of that snake.
Serpentine ranked #13 for most popular game of 1982 according to Softalk Magazine citation | date = Apr 1983 | author = (unspecified) | periodical = [http://apple2history.org/history/appy/aha82.html Softalk] | title = It's Choplifter in '82 | year = 1982 | pages = 76-82]
