landing gear . As a result the pilot decided to shorten the flight to land inMunich , after the crew had estimated the fuel consumption using theFlight Management System (FMS). However, the FMS was not designed to take account a half-raised landing gear, and in fact there was not enough fuel to reach this destination. After an alarm at 12:49 informed the crew that there was only 1.3 tons ofjet fuel left in the tanks, the pilot quickly redirected the flight toVienna . However, the aircraft ran out of fuel with twenty kilometers to go, and the crew were left to glide the jet towards therunway . It touched down 500 meters short, striking airport equipment, spinning 120 degrees, and coming to a rest off the runway. Some of the passengers were injured, none seriously.
