Rose Hill Plantation State Historic Site, located near Union, South Carolina in the piedmont region of that state, preserves the Union County plantation home along the Tyger River, a branch of the Broad River. Rose Hill is the former home of South Carolina Governor William H. Gist. [http://www.southcarolinaparks.com/park-finder/state-park/540.aspx] Gist was governor of South Carolina during years leading up to the civil war, and played an important role in the state's decision to secede from the United States. Visitors can see the main historic house as well as surrounding plantation buildings. This site is located in the Enoree district of the Sumter National Forest in the Northern part of the state. At only convert|44|acre|km2, the site is one of the smaller sites in South Carolina's State Park System.
