Red Descending are a four piece Australian melodic death metal band from the city of Perth. They were founded in 2003 by Ian Binet, Bernard Shaw and Jeremy Taylor and named after a Dark Tranquillity lyric from the album Haven. They were first recognized on the major stage in 2007 after the music video 'Century' was air nationally on Australia's ABC Television 'RAGE' 5 times. Red Descending combine elements from the melodic death metal genre with symphonic metal, black metal and some influences from viking metal. James McGregor joined the band on keyboards in 2006 when Jeremy Taylor moved from keyboards to drums. After demo DVD releases in 2004 and 2007 which included music videos produced by the band themselves they continued the 'do it yourself' attitude of production with their 2008 debut album "Where Dreams Come to Die". Apart from the mastering process, the production was handled entirely by the band, with guitarist Ian Binet recording and audio mixing the album in his own studio. Unlike most bands in their genre, Red Descending choose to use an electronic drum kit for live shows.
