The portrayal of homosexuality in speculative fiction has undergone many changes. Numerous works in the science fiction and fantasy genres have been labelled as "lesbian". This may be due to the work containing lesbian characters or themes, or simply having a lesbian author or being published by a lesbian small press such as Bella Books. A number of anthologies focusing on "lesbian" sicence fiction, fantasy or horror have also been produced.
