The Radio Chick

The Radio Chick

The Radio Chick is the on-air name for Leslie Gold, a popular radio personality whose talk show features comedian Chuck Nice and her producer, Butch Brennan.

Broadcasting history

At WNEW, The Radio Chick quickly took the show from 17th to 3rd among men. Hosting the morning show at Q104.3, she was the only woman headlining a morning drive radio show in New York. After hosting successful radio and TV shows in the New York market, she extended her reach nationally on Sirius Satellite Radio, creating one of the most popular shows on the service. In 2006, she returned to terrestrial radio to host the afternoon drive slot on CBS Free-FM WFNY in NYC and was simulcast on 106.9 FREE FM in San Francisco.

Since arriving in New York, The Radio Chick and her producer Butch Brennan have launched a nationally televised stealth attack on Kathie Lee Gifford. During Gifford's guest hosting appearance on "The Late Show with David Letterman", the pair stormed the stage mid-show, tossing Gifford a bra. Weeks later, Gold's listeners staged a surprise tribute to her by wrapping bras on all the statues throughout Central Park. A few months later, as another show of devotion, her listeners hung a giant 75 foot bra off the Triboro Bridge. One of her most celebrated moments came when Gold's then-employer, Clear Channel Broadcasting, deemed an almost topless billboard of her too controversial and ordered it down. The billboard incident was widely covered in both local and national media.

The heart of The Radio Chick's show, however, is the "irreverent, edgy" world she creates each day in studio with the help of her producer, Butch Brennan, her sidekick, comedian Chuck Nice and additional producer/cast member "JC". Past shows have featured segments such as What's My Perversion, The Wheel of Wife Beaters, The Chick on Chicks, Valentine's Day Divorce and The Flaming Stripper Bar B Q as well as comedic calls from show 'regulars' such as Jesus, Bill Cosby, Barry White, Bono and Leslie's own body part, "Muffy". Celebrities who have appeared include many from the cast of "The Sopranos", rock musicians such as Ted Nugent, Steven Tyler, and Jon Bon Jovi and movie actors including Willem Dafoe, Robert Duvall and Sylvester Stallone, to name just a few.

A graduate of Syracuse University and the Harvard Graduate School of Business, prior to her entry into radio, Gold owned and operated Bishop Manufacturing Company, a medium-sized building products manufacturing company. After 10 years, she sold the 160-employee company to a Fortune 100 company and turned her attention to radio. To break into the business she worked for free at a new defunct 1000-watt radio station in Connecticut. Her first paying radio job came at WRKO in Boston. Her show earned several industry awards and became one of the highest rated evening shows in the station's history as a talk station.

Leslie has hosted her own television show in the New York Market called "The Radio Chick on the Prowl" and had many other television appearances including "Larry King Live", "Nightline", "The CBS Early Show", "ABC Nightly News", MSNBC, CNBC, CNN, Fox News, WB11 News, "Fox's Good Day NY", as well as numerous other television appearances. She has also been featured in print in the Associated Press, "The New York Times", "Playboy", "Penthouse", "Glamour", "Men's Health" magazine, "Complete Woman" magazine, "The New York Post", "New York Daily News" and "Crain's New York", among others.

On May 24, 2007, The Radio Chick announced on her web blog that Free FM has switched its format back to K-ROCK, which focuses mainly on rock music, and that her show will no longer be broadcast by the station, although she is still under contract to CBS Radio. She has announced that she is currently associated with the 2008 version of "The Gong Show" on Comedy Central. In addition she has been slated to host the television program "TMI" which stands for "Too Much Information." [http://www.tmishow.com]
