East Literature Magnet Middle and High School (or simply East Magnet or East Literature) is a public high school located in Nashville, Tennessee.East includes grades 5-12, and students enter through a lottery process similar to the other magnet schools in Nashville. It is unique in that it it the only school in Nashville to serve grades 5 thru 12.

History

East Literature Magnet School opened its doors in the fall of 1993 as a school-within- a-school on the campus of East Middle School. The school now fills the entire campus of the historic East Nashville High School. In September 2005, they dedicated their new campus and celebrated the completion of the renovation of their buildings. They are the only public school program serving grades five through 12 in Davidson County. With both a middle school building and a high school building, they are able to successfully address the unique needs of both programs. The total enrollment now exceeds 1200 students.

East Literature Magnet School is a thematic magnet school located in the heart of historic East Nashville. The school theme is "literature and our curriculum is built around the expressions of ideas in words, music and art." There is no entrance qualification for the school. Students just have to express a desire to participate in this literature-based, college preparatory program by submitting an application for the lottery selection process.

Academics

East Magnet is home to many AP and Honors courses. Many educators use literature to convey many topics in Math, History, and Art. All teachers are qualified in their field and convey a entusiasm to their students every day. It Ranks as one of the #3 High School in Davidson County. The school has met NCLB benchmarks every year.

East Magnet offers sports such as Soccer, Basketball, Wrestling, Volleyball, Tennis, Bowling, Golf, Football, Track and field, Softball, Baseball, Cheerleading, and Cross Country.
