San Mateo is an unincorporated community in Cibola County, New Mexico, United States.

San Mateo was founded in the late 1800s. The community has a Catholic church and an old abandoned elementary school.

Geography

San Mateo is located at coor dms|35|19|53|N|107|38|35|W|city (35.331423, -107.643110). The community is convert|25|mi|km from Grants, the largest city in Cibola County.Source needed|date=July 2008 It overlooks Mount Taylor. San Mateo lies 7310 feet (2228 m) above sea level.
