Kentucky Fried Cruelty is a People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals campaign that began in 2001, seeking to change KFC's treatment of chickens raised for its restaurants. Since then, PETA says it has protested more than 12,000 times against KFC.[1] KFC is the fourth restaurant chain to have been targeted by PETA, following campaigns against McDonald's, Burger King, and Wendy's.[2]
KentuckyFriedCruelty.com
KentuckyFriedCruelty.com was the legal name of Christopher Garnett, a youth outreach worker for PETA. He had changed his name to protest the treatment of chickens by KFC, also known as Kentucky Fried Chicken.[3] At the time of his name change, Garnett was the Street Team coordinator of peta2, which PETA describes as its "young adult division".[4]
The PETA website shows a copy of KentuckyFriedCruelty.com's drivers license bearing what was his legal name.[5] PETA member Pamela Anderson expressed her support for the name change, as did his parents, although they continued to call him Chris.[5][6] KentuckyFriedCruelty.com promised his mother he would change his name back again when the PETA campaign against KFC was over,[6] which he did in July 2006.[7]
