Francesco Caracciolo class battleship

Francesco Caracciolo class battleship

The "Francesco Caracciolo" class was a four ship class of battleship planned for the Regia Marina before World War I. The ships were suspended on the Italian entry into World War I, in order to concentrate on more pressing priorities. All four ships were cancelled after the war and their uncompleted hulls were scrapped.

Design

These ships were significantly more powerful than the previous dreadnoughts built for the Italian Navy. Armed with 15 inch guns they would have been similar to the Royal Navy's "Queen Elizabeth" class battleships.
