"Sido" is the stage name of the German rapper Paul Würdig (born November 30 1980 in Berlin), an artist whose work is released by the German record label Aggro Berlin. Sido distinguishes himself by using provocative and aggressive lyrics, and is often seen wearing a silver skull mask.

The name "Sido" is an abbreviation that is spelled as „"super intelligentes Drogenopfer"“ („super intelligent drug victim“). However, this is the new interpretation, or backronym, as the name originally meant „"Scheiße in dein Ohr"“ (Shit into your ear).

Biography

Paul Würdig aka Sido was raised, together with his younger sister, by his mother in Märkisches Viertel, a high-rise residential area in the Reinickendorf borough of Berlin. During his childhood and youth, Märkisches Viertel had a high proportion of migrants and low-income families. He visited the Bettina-von-Arnim-Oberschule there.

He has a son, whose name is not known publicly. Sido acknowledges the existence of his son in a line in the song "Aggro Berlin" ("Aggro Ansage Nr. 4"): "Ich verwöhn mein Sohn mit Aggro"/"I spoil my son with Aggro".On his album Ich he dedicated the song "Ein Teil von mir" to his son.

Since the middle of 2005, he has had a romantic relationship with former Nu Pagadi singer Doreen Steinert.

Carrer

Since 1997 is Sido active in the music business. Together with B-Tight he released as the duo Royal TS some EP's and Demos, who where never published, at the Berlin underground label Royal Bunker. At the concert the three future chefs, of Aggro Berlin got attentive to the duo. They planned to forme the label and to signe them two.

Sido's solo carrer began 2003 with the "Weihnachtssong", on the sampler "Aggro Ansage Nr. 3" and also the "Arschficksong".In 2004, Sido's debut album, „"Maske"“, sold more than 180,000 copies. Two album singles "Mein Block and "Fuffies im Club" landed, like the album, at the Top Ten in the charts. The "Arschficksong" got published (with the easly censor video), for the first time as single. This brought Sido three single release in the charts. The third single off the his debut album was "Mama ist stolz", a song to his mother.

In September of that year, he won a prestigious German music award for "Best Newcomer." The best known song from that album, „"Mein Block"“, describes life in the Märkisches Viertel, a poverty-stricken neighborhood of Berlin from a resident's perspective, detailing the narcotics trade, alcoholism, problems with police, and indigence in Sido's "Block", or building.

After this debut album, he released with his label colleagues two label samplers: "Aggro Ansage Nr. 4" and "Aggro Ansage Nr. 5".Then he worked together, with the rapper Harris, as the rap duo Deine Lieblings Rapper. They released 2005 their debut album "Dein Lieblings Album", with the single "Steh wieder auf".

2006 released Sido his second album "Ich", with the three singles: "Strassenjunge", "Ein Teil von mir" and "Schlechtes Vorbild".His third album "Ich und meine Maske", released Sido at the end of May 2008, which reached the 1st place in the german album charts. Also the singles "Augen auf/Halt dein maul", "Carmen" and "Herz", were sucesessfull.

Sido joined 2008 the sevent Popstars season "Just 4 Girls" as judge, along side with Detlef D! Soost and Loona.

Controversy

Sido has recently been the center of a lot of controversy. Most of his personal information is kept secret; not even his original name or birthday are confirmed by official records. Fact|date=February 2007

The perceived rebellious tendencies of his label affiliates "B-Tight", "Fler", and "G-Hot", whose personae emphasize embittered racial or class standpoints, have garnered additional discussion in wide-circulation publications. January 12, 2007, on MTV Germany TRL, Sido harshly criticized rock band Linkin Park and Mike Shinoda's side project Fort Minor about their music.
