Samuel J. Wagstaff Jr. (
November 4 ,1921 –January 14 ,1987 ) was a visionary Americancurator andcollector and the artistic mentor, benefactor and lover of photographerRobert Mapplethorpe . He died of complications from AIDS more than 2 years before Mapplethorpe.
