"Home", also known as Scene Six: Home is the eighth song of the American progressive metal band Dream Theater fifth studio album .

Music

The first 104 seconds of the songs sound like Indian music with Jordan Rudess playing the sitar part on his synthesizer. From then on until 2:05 there's a heavier electric guitar riff with John Petrucci triggering the "wah-wah" part. After that there's another keyboard lead part until 2:27 characterized jokingly by Mike Portnoy on the as "nanny-nanny-poo-poo". From 2:28 begins the main part of the song and also the very alike guitar riff and at 2:43 there's the first lyrical reference to Metropolis (lake of fire) followed by 3:12 reference (confined). After that there's the first drum reference to Metropolis (explained by Portnoy on the SFNY DVD). The part with lyrics lasts until 4:46 after what comes the "nanny-nanny-poo-poo" part again. From 5:17 to 7:20 lasts the second lyrical part. That part contains another lyrical reference to Metropolis (Victoria watches and thoughtfully smiles, she's taking me to my home). After that there's a breakdown of music during which one can hear sounds dices rolling and people shouting and also a woman making sounds of pleasure. That is followed by a long instrumental section and also a long keyboard solo until at 10:23 the final lyrical part of the song begins and lasts until 11:03. After that there are the guitar and synthesizer parts from the 2nd minute of the song which are followed by sitar part played on keyboards. At 12:19 there is a small section where the band grooves in 19/16 time.

At first we can hear Julian (the Sleeper) admitting that he's having problems (drinking and casino) and he can't get rid of them (emphasized by the lines "the city's cold blood calls me home" and "my demons are coming to drown me"). He understands he needs help, he knows that what he's doing is wrong and dangerous but he "can't escape from its clutch".After that we find out that disappointed Victoria ran to Julian's brother Edward to find comfort. Edward comforted her but then began to fall in love with her. He even felt guilt ("deceiveing my own blood) but obsession was stronger so he seduced Victoria and had sex with her (while Julian was gambling in casino). Finally we hear Nicholas who is controlled by regression and obsession for solving that mystery and admits that he too "is falling and can't keep away from its clutch". The mystery is calling him to his "home".
