Traditionally a Republican stronghold in a Democratic New England, New Hampshire went for Senator John F. Kerry with a slim 9,274 lead. It was the only state in all of the Northeast to vote Republican in 2000. New Hampshire was the only state that Bush won in the 2000 presidential election and lost in the 2004 presidential election.
