According to the
United States Census Bureau , the village has a total area of 0.9square mile s (2.2km² ), of which, 0.8 square miles (2.1 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (3.53%) is water.Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 954 people, 393 households, and 244 families residing in the village. Thepopulation density was 1,159.9 per square mile (449.2/km²). There were 438 housing units at an average density of 532.5/sq mi (206.2/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 94.44% White, 0.42% African American, 1.47% Native American, 1.05% Asian, 0.63% from other races, and 1.99% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.94% of the population.There were 393 households out of which 33.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.1% were married couples living together, 10.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.7% were non-families. 32.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 3.11.
In the village the population was spread out with 29.4% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 26.0% from 25 to 44, 20.6% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 77.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 75.5 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $27,460, and the median income for a family was $37,292. Males had a median income of $30,804 versus $20,417 for females. The
per capita income for the village was $13,704. About 10.4% of families and 13.8% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 13.0% of those under age 18 and 16.8% of those age 65 or over.Government
Hesperia is governed by a 7 person Council consisting of six trustees (with alternating 4 year terms) and a President (2 year term). As of September, 2007 the following serve: President - Roger Kraus, Trustee and Pro Tem - Richard Williams, Trustees: Mari McGahan, Bill Siemens, Scott Kroepel, Toni Rumsey, Arthur Raymond
Meetings are held the 2nd Monday of each month at the Village Hall on E. Michigan Avenue at 7:30pm.
