Azzopardi

Azzopardi is a Maltese surname derived from the Hebrew "A Safardi", which means a "a Jew coming from Spain". In 1492, the Azzopardis of Malta converted to Catholicism in keeping with the laws of the time. However, a few practised Judaism in secret, but this did not last long and all eventually converted to Catholicism.
